Today the Humane Society International, Compassion in World Farming, Beyond GM, Food for Life Global and the European Parliament‘s Sustainable Food Systems Group have served a free lunch on the Esplanade of the European Parliament, which has gathered hundreds of people, who came to taste healthy vegetarian or vegan food.
This initiative has been supported by the Animal Welfare Intergroup Members Sirpa Pietikäinen, Bart Staes, Anja Hazekamp, Marco Zullo as well as by Ulrike Lunacek and saw also the intervention of Marco Valletta from Commissioner Andriukaitis’ cabinet.
The Free Lunch which was prepared with surplus vegetables had the goal to incite politicians to adopt measures that promote healthy and sustainable food consumption with more plant-based foods and less animal-products.
Sustainable plant based food contributes to better environmental protection and frees animals from lifelong confinement and suffering.
Additional food was prepared during the event which will be donated to refugees in a camp at Maximilian Park, in Brussels.
