Michele Striffler ‒ soon to be elected new vice-president of the Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals ‒ recently reacted to a letter sent by Mr Mark Oaten, CEO of the International Fur Trade Federation which was accompanied with the two last issues of Vogue Magazine.

In her reply letter (written in French) she expresses her conviction that fashion stylists can create their collections without the need to inflict suffering to tens of millions of animals in order to meet the needs of the fashion industry.

She also refutes in her letter the argument that fur industry is contributing to the economic growth of countries, arguing that activities linked to alternatives for fur are also drivers of economic growth.

Lastly, she condemns the use of animals in order to make fur clothing, ensuring her deepest commitment to fight against the foundations of fur activities and to oppose this cruel exploitation within the European Parliament.
