Last Friday, Michèle Striffler MEP (EPP, FR) has written to the Spanish Minister for Education and Sports and to selected Spanish regional authorities calling on them to ensure a better protection of greyhounds (galgos).  Unfortunately, in several parts of Spain galgos used for hunting purposes continue to be routinely abandoned and mutilated to disguise their identity or killed by their owners at the end of an unsuccessful hunting season.  The killing methods are often extremely inhumane including hanging which is often accompanied by other forms of physical injury.  Eventual replies to Ms Striffler’s letter will be published on the website
