Carl Schlyter wins MEP award 2013 for animal welfare

The MEP Awards 2013We are proud to announce that yesterday, Carl Schlyter, the Honorary President of the Animal Welfare Intergroup  has received this year’s Parliament Magazine MEP award in the category “animal welfare”. Sonja Van Tichelen, the Regional Director for the European Union at the International Fund for Animal Welfare handed him the prize.

Carl Schlyter has been selected for his numerous merits in supporting the animal welfare cause in the European Union. He has been among the leading forces for several animal welfare related initiatives in Parliament, notably the EU ban on the marketing of seal products and more recently for the petition calling on the Commission and Council to review the EU Animal Transport Regulation  and to establish a maximum eight-hour limit journeys for animals being transported to slaughter.

The Intergroup congratulates him for this well- deserved prize  and thanks for his strong commitment to ensure that animal welfare is high on the EU agenda.
