Call to stop the Dog Meat Festival on 21st June in Yulin, China

On 09/06/2015, in All posts, by Animal Welfare Intergroup

The Intergroup has sent a letter to the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the European Union  urging the  relevant Chinese authorities to  fully revoke the Dog Meat Festival in Yulin China,  which has been introduced some years ago to celebrate the solstice on 21st June.  This gruesome event is unacceptable on animal welfare grounds and raises moreover serious health and  food safty concerns. Despite allegations that the regional government has  already banned the mass killing of dogs and cats for this event, these cruel practices continue to be carried out. We hope that the letter of the EP Animal Welfare Intergroup will add to the increasing worldwide pressure on the Chinese authorities to  fully stop the cruel slaughter of companion animals for this purpose.
