The Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals is proud to receive the “Parliamentarian of the month” award from Cruelty Free International. During this morning Intergroup Session, the MEPs of the Intergroup were granted this award for their efforts in favour of the resolution supporting a global ban on cosmetics testing on animals adopted by the European Parliament at the beginning of this month. The award is a recognition of their actions to advance this issue inside the Parliament and to make it a priority for the European institutions.

The resolution called for the Presidents of the European Parliament, Commission and Council, and the 28 Member States to advocate for a worldwide ban on the animal testing of cosmetics and to build an international coalition promoting a convention against the testing of animals for cosmetics.

Jaqueline Foster MEP declared: “That this outdated, cruel and unnecessary practice still happens is an outrage in 2018. We need to end it everywhere and forever. The Parliament’s vote is a great step in the right direction”.

Cruelty Free International calls now upon the Intergroup Members to follow up the resolution by pushing the Commission, Council and Member States to take the call up internationally and make the ban a reality.
