Devastating floods caused by Russian attack on the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant

Today Russia destroyed the Kakhovka dam inflicting one of Europe’s largest technological disaster in decades and putting thousands of civilians and animals at risk.

The Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals is appalled by the devastating actions of the Russian government on the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, situated in Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region. 

Evacuation is underway however many animals are trapped in the flooding caused by the ruined dam of the Kakhovka reservoir. Furthermore, flooding has spread to the nearby Kazkova Dibrova zoo, with many animals reported dead and others at risk of drowning.

The Intergroup calls for immediate action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of these innocent animals.
