Event and exhibition: What's on the Horizon for Animals

On 8th October 2019 the Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals and Eurogroup for Animals will host an exhibition and event in the European Parliament, “The New Political Term: What’s on the Horizon for Animals”.

Hosted by Pascal Durand, Tilly Metz, Anja Hazekamp, Sirpa Pietikäinen, Maria Noichl, Jadwiga Wiśniewska, Emil Radev, and Younous Omarjee, the event will be held on the third floor of the EP’s Altiero Spinelli building and start at 13h30 with the official opening of the exhibition, which will showcase the key challenges for animal welfare during the upcoming legislative term and the opportunities for actions.

The opening of the exhibition will include a welcome speech by Anja Hazekamp MEP, introductory remarks by Reineke Hameleers from Eurogroup for Animals, and addresses by MEPs from the Intergroup and by Britta Riis, the President of Eurogroup for Animals. Photo opportunities for MEPs will be provided throughout the duration of the exhibition from the 8th to the 10th October.

The opening ceremony on 8th October will be followed by a seminar which will provide more information on selected animal welfare challenges for the coming years and their possible  solutions. A round table discussion of experts will address the current situation of animal welfare in the EU: Emeritus Professor Donald M. Broom will discuss sustainability and his report on animal welfare in the EU, and Janusz Wojciechowski of the European Court of Auditors will present the ECA report on animal welfare.

A second round table will discuss the situation of farm animals, cats and dogs, equines, animals in science and wildlife, with the speakers including academic experts, representatives from civil society and members of the EU institutions.
