Invitation to the exhibition "think you know fish?"

7 Nov 2019
Next week, from 11th to 14th November, the Animal Welfare Intergroup Members Francisco Guerreiro (Greens/EFA, PT), Pascal Durand (Renew Europe, FR), Tilly Metz (Greens/EFA LU), Martin Buschmann (GUE/NGL, DE), Sylwia Spurek (S&D, PL) and Eleonora Evi (NA, IT) will co-host the exhibition " think you know fish? "organised by Compassion in World Farming in the Bar Area 3D of the European Parliament in Brussels.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on Tuesday 12th November at 13:30 hrs.

Public awareness of – and concern for – fish has been largely absent from the animal welfare debate. This exhibition will raise awareness among Parliamentarians and their teams about the cognitive abilities and emotional capacity of fish, their ability to feel pain and suffering and the serious welfare issues they face. Fish deserve the same legislative protection as other farmed animals, which is not the case at the moment.

We hope to encourage action to protect the interests of fish, leading to a reduction of suffering in the lives of farmed fish and at the time of killing for both farmed and wild caught fish.

MEPs and some representatives from Member States will give short speeches (2-3 min) at the opening of the exhibition.
