Turkeys are the third most farmed animal in the EU after chickens and pigs. Last year alone, 190 million turkeys were slaughtered across the EU. Nevertheless, legally binding husbandry standards to improve the welfare for turkeys are missing on the EU level. 

Aiming at raising awareness about this situation and looking at improving European minimum welfare standards for farmed turkeys, MEP Sarah Wiener (Greens/EFA, AT), Vice-President of the Animal Welfare Intergroup recently launched the campaign #StandarsForTurkeys.

MEP Wiener, who is an active member of the Intergroup, is inviting citizens and policy-makers to support the campaign by signing a petition here available.
